Louis de Abrantes

Louis de Abrantes grew up in Lisbon and Paris, where in currently lives.

He is a biologist and has a PhD in Biology and Ethnobotany (Plants and People Studies). He won several international awards, including two prizes from the Ford Foundation, due to his scientific research and cultural activities. Recently has focused his research on the uses of plants in Victorian England.

He was visiting scholar at Harvard University and wrote many scientific papers, articles and books on different subjects, such as the symbolic uses of plants by Queen Elizabeth II or the History of Parma Violets in Europe.

He is specialist in the history of tea, rituals of tea and tea etiquette, as well as the history of food plants and the evolution of table/etiquette traditions in Europe from the Renaissance up to the XXI century.
