In 2009 I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. For 3 years, I was on medication. I was prescribed steroids and told to stay on immuno-suppressants for life. I wasn’t very happy to live in this potential “bio-chemical chaos” that led onto anti-depressants.

I wanted to learn why I had RA to see if there was any chance of turning my situation around and eliminate the need for medication. I am ever grateful though, for having the medication, because it bought me time.

I have spent 11 years researching. Reading countless books and scientific papers courtesy of Google Scholar. Through the internet, I have been privileged enough to “attend” thousands of hours of scientific and medical lectures, conferences and interviews, all over the world. I have been obsessive with seeking out new thinking and research from individuals that had an open minded and scientific approach. Individuals unhindered by the prospect of profit or promotion.

My interest has coincided with extremely exciting times in this area of evolving science. This has, undoubtedly, been driven by the advent of the internet and the incredible volume of exchange of information between medical professionals and scientists. My research found me answers and I have changed the way I eat profoundly. I have been medication-free since 2013, I don’t even take paracetamol.

I feel healthier than I have felt in years. Since the era of food guidelines, a medicating approach to illness and an institutional, rigid, consensus on medical advice, we have experienced an ever-worsening level of chronic disease in the West. Although we are living longer we are seeing increased levels of suffering in old age, especially with dementia and late stage gut dysfunction and cancers. The more knowledge is gained the more amazing we find the relationship between nutrition and the human body and the more we have to acknowledge how little we know. I believe we must always keep questioning, even the things that seem right to us now. For more information please go to www.marinayoung.com.
