I was born, obviously, in Toadsuck, Arkansas, and I survived it. It was, perhaps, the last great era of childhood, when we ran wild all over town.

I started writing early and went on to become the Features Editor at the Arkansas Traveler, the University of Arkansas' daily newspaper. Then I just had to get out of Arkansas so I moved to New York City, where I lived in a private residence on 36th Street between Park Avenue and Lexington. It was an amazing experience. I met the only two loves of my life while living there, twice, once when I was 18 and spent the summer being a professional game show contestant and later, after college, when I worked as an advertising copywriter. Anne, now my wife, wasn't too interested in me in those days so I had to follow her to London, where we both lived and where I convinced her to marry me.

I spent my career writing copy and creating marketing stuff for clients.

In 1990 ScrippsHowward picked up my newspaper column, "A Dad's Eye View" and distributed it for 10 years. It was the first humor column ever written for Dads by a Dad. I got all sorts of nasty letters from retired teachers wondering who had let me have children of my own. The column was sarcastic, funny, and pointed. But when my daughter hit puberty it just got too weird to write about any longer. Now I write about other stuff, love my wife after all these centuries and oddly, enough have wonderful loving relationships with my kids. Who would have thought?
