I had been working for an engineering technology company in England for twenty years, starting as an accounts clerk. Despite family commitments, through hard work, perseverance, and rigorous self-study, I had become a finalist of the enviable qualification of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). As a result, I had been promoted to the position of trust fund analyst within the finance department.

It was while in this role that I realised that in order for the worldwide professional members of the technology company to increase their contributions to the fund, it was essential that I explained to them in writing what the trust fund was all about.

I then wrote my first article on the trust fund in the members’ magazine, and I was surprised by the response. One member rang me up and astounded me by offering to donate between one hundred thousand and half a million pounds to the fund.

Encouraged by this extraordinary offer, I later went on to write more articles, and as I did, I enjoyed every moment of it, especially the compliments from readers. All these gave me immense pleasure and satisfaction.

Encouraged by the whole experience, I later got a job as a finance manager in London, becoming a top accountant in a building society.

I was so thrilled by this sudden turn of events that I thought the hard work had finally paid off, but as fate would have it, I lost the job after just four months. Since it was my first time ever to lose a job, I was naturally devastated as well as terrified – rightly so, as I would find myself exposed to all sorts of dangers. I was now in a foreign land, thousands of miles from home, without any source of income.

The following Monday, having no job to go to, I started putting all my thoughts and despair in writing. Not only did it feel good, but it read well too. Emboldened, I continued to write.
