Marianne Weems

Marianne Weems is a theater and opera director and co-founder of the award winning New York-based performance and media ensemble The Builders Association. She has also worked in various creative roles with The Wooster Group, Susan Sontag, David Byrne, The V-Girls, and many others.

The Builders Association (www.thebuildersassociation.org) was founded in 1994. The company has created 15 original large-scale productions and worked with some unexpected collaborators including the architects Diller + Scofidio, The National Center for Super Computing Applications, and the South Asian arts collective motiroti. Since 1994 they have toured domestically and internationally to over 80 venues, and their last four productions have premièred in New York at The Brooklyn Academy of Music.

From 2008-2014 she was the head of Graduate Directing at the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University. She is currently NYC lead-faculty of a new Carnegie Mellon arts and technology initiative based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
