Markus Virgil Hoehne is Lecturer at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Leipzig. He works on conflict, identity, state formation, borderlands, transitional justice and forensic anthropology in Somalia and beyond. Since 2002, he spent in total more than three years in northern Somalia (beside brief visists to Ethiopia and Kenya), mainly for conducting field research, but occasionally also for consultancy work. He is fluent in colloquial Somali.
