Author and therapist Natalie Gold lived precariously on the diet-binge roller-coaster, with its extreme weight fluctuations, ultimate obesity, low self-esteem, and dishonest relationships. Unable to focus, she dropped out of university twice, and in-between spent ten months in a mental hospital (which helped her cope in the real vs. the perfect thin world she imagined). An on-off career as a singer in Canada and Europe preceded her entry into a 12-step program in June 1981, when her real recovery began. She got off sugar and white flour, and gained clarity. But the painstaking process of developing a different relationship with food, eating, herself (and everyone else) plus the anxiety and emotional stress of relapse led her to to Gestalt Therapy , a holistic, relational and experiential treatment mode.
After 25 years as a qualitative research consultant, Natalie trained to become a qualified psychotherapist. She holds an honors B.A. in psychology, a Grad Certificate in Addictions and Mental Health, and a Post-Grad Certificate in Gestalt Therapy. In private practice since 2007, Natalie helps clients with binge eating, food addiction, emotional eating and other food-body related issues, plus the underlying anxiety and trauma. Her groups and workshops have run in Toronto since 2002. BINGE CRAZY is her first book, and the basis of her chapter on severe food addiction in the textbook, "Processed Food Addiction, Foundations, Assessment and Recovery" (Taylor & Francis).
Natalie is a member in good standing of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP), the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT), aand the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (AAGT), an international community.
