Henry Blumenthal

Henry Blumenthal (BA, LLB) – Educator and Author.

In his book ‘Blame the Child- It’s Easier’, Henry draws on his vast experience in educating young people. He explains how the cycle of underachievement in schooling develops.

It is normal for students to progress at different rates in different sections of the curriculum, and in different subjects. The expectation that all students will absorb subjects at the same rate as one another is unrealistic. However, when the student falls behind, the educators and the system do not always have solutions. They are not even aware that the situation should be solved. A time comes when the student’s gaps prevent adequate absorption of new sections. The system at this point has failed the student, who often then gets to be tested for some ‘disorder’, educational or emotional.

Henry believes the education system is to blame for not offering adequate educational solutions, and for believing that the student has some ‘disorder’ that needs remedying.

His book offers real solutions to underachieving students, their parents and their teachers.

Henry established his first private school in Johannesburg in 1976 in order to assist students who were not doing well enough in schooling. He opened his second school in 1980 so that more students could be catered for.

Henry also established a business school for Bankers wanting to pass the Institute’s exams. After Henry emigrated to Australia in 1996, he served as Literacy Officer in a school in Sydney, and remained connected to the education industry through training of adults in public relations and communication skills, and through the tutoring of young students. Henry also currently teaches Maths at a private school in Sydney.
