Roberta Ray

Roberta was born on a remote farm in Northampton County, N.C. in 1944. At the age of 6, she learned how to be self sufficient. At such a young age, she was planting vegetables, raising farm animals, cooking, and caring for her siblings. In spite of having such a huge responsibility, she managed to develop a fun, energetic personality as she enjoyed the joys of a kid growing up. She played sports such as baseball and ran with the boys and girls of the neighborhood.

Roberta always had the tools to make it without help, especially as she got older. She was not the kind of person to ask for handouts. She also was not the wealthiest, but always made a way. Birthdays never went unnoticed since she knew how to bake a cake from scratch. She never went unclothed, since she could make her own. She didn’t need a male around, she had all the necessary skills to do almost anything such as paint an entire house, mow the lawn, or even change a car tire.

Life has a way of throwing one heavy and huge lemons, but Roberta was no novice nor was she sensitive to touch. She took every lemon thrown her way, squeezed it to its dryness, and made lemonade from scratch, no pun intended. With that said, she has encountered some very heavy situations that one could not imagine. Of course in the moment, things were painful, but through it all she has managed to stay humble and appreciate all that has been brought her way long enough to find the beauty in every circumstance. She has always had a beautiful personality. Roberta always offers to give, puts others before herself, and never expects anything in return. She is a divine woman of God and loves her children and family.

Through writing, Roberta wishes to share her experiences with others in hopes that they touch someone who has had similar encounters or just simply understands. She wishes to send a message directly to that person letting them know that “No matter what comes your way in life, you’re protected. That God has already got your back and always will. And while things just happen in life, God will always help you seek the positive in every circumstance if you just have faith and trust in God.”

Roberta developed the passion to share experiences that she has had. As she aims to take her readers through the heartfelt stories, prepare to be astounded by her truth and appreciative of her genuine spirit to still remain as the great, wonderful person she has been regardless of what she has been through. She is the epitome of strength and has gracefully emulated this phrase “Let your past make you better, not bitter.”
