Richard A. O'Brien

Richard A. O'Brien was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1961. He started writing the "CJ and the Angel Kids" books, based on inspiration from God and his 12 year old son Connor. Connor James or CJ was born with cerebral palsy and was always considered an "Angel Kid". The series of six books is about CJ and four of his friends, called "Angel Kids", at different camps. The adventure and mystery series address: awareness (book 1), bullying (book 2), childhood obesity (book 3), dyslexia (book 4), autism (book 5) and sensory processing disorders (book 6). The books provide a unique perspective about the various issues that differently-abled kids experience and provides the readers with how these issues are manifested in real life with these kids. Teamwork, respect, honesty, problem solving and kindness are just a few of the attributes that the "Angel Kids" bring to each camp. We have portrayed the "Angel Kids" as positive role models for all differently-abled kids and have tried to get the message out-- they just want to be kids, regardless of their special abilities.
