Lorraine MacAlister

Lorraine is an Autism Training Consultant at The National Autistic Society, the leading UK charity for people on the autism spectrum (including Asperger syndrome) and their families. We provide information, support and pioneering services, and campaign for a better world for people with autism.

Delivering training on autism to a variety of external organisations, including health and social care, education, voluntary organisations and those within the Criminal Justice System, Lorraine has a variety of experience working with children and adults on the autism families and their families. She has lectured on autism at a variety of UK Universities and is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Cumbria.

Working for The National Autistic Society since 2005, Lorraine’s initial role was to deliver the help! Family Support Programme, a series of post-diagnostic seminars for parents of children with autism delivered across the country on a variety of topics. She has also developed the resource ‘Autism Seminars for Families’ which enables other organisations to deliver seminars themselves for families within their local area.

As part of the Training, Consultancy and Conference team, Lorraine continues to use her wide range of experience to deliver training covering a variety of topics, with a key focus on understanding sensory differences and continence difficulties.

Lorraine is co-author of the book Toilet Training and the Autism Spectrum: A Guide for Professionals and has had an article published in the Nursing Times on autism and toileting.
