After graduating from AM&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and two years in the U.S. Army he lived in Chicago, Ill., was accepted at and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry.

The interest in dentistry was sparked by a passing comment to him by a favorite high school teacher, “You have long fingers like a doctor.”

While yet practicing dentistry, his interest in the world of commercial business was intensified by a man who became his mentor, S.B. Fuller of Fuller Products Company. Baskins conducted sales meetings daily before opening his dental office. Many dental patients become salespeople of Fuller Products. Baskins wrote weekly articles for a community newspaper entitled, “As I See It.”

Dr. Baskins’s love of assisting people to grow in spiritual understanding led him to accept the invitation of a pastor to become an ordained minister for a number of years. He formulated the Institute of Attitude Modification (I AM) that hosted “Midweek Renewal Sessions” every Wednesday morning for a number of years and Sunday sessions called “A Celebration of Life” in the mornings and “Conversation for Transformation” on Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Baskins has spoken at elementary and high schools as commencement speaker as well as during the regular school year for Career Day and as an inspirational speaker.

After retiring from dentistry as a dentist, Dr. Baskins continues to write and speak at schools and churches in Chicago, Ill. His passion is to share with those persons who are open and receptive, ideas that hundreds of people testify are beneficial in improving the quality of life experienced.
