Jonathan Meader

Jonathan Meader, artist and author, was born in New Jersey in 1943. As a teenager, he lived in Lebanon and Morocco. When he was 13, he began renting motorcycles and traveling around Rabat. In 1965, he drove his AWO 250 motorcycle round-trip from Paris to Morocco, and in 1970 put 8000 miles on a new BSA 650 Thunderbolt touring Europe, visiting museums. He and his wife Barbara Demeter enjoy traveling off-road into the Egyptian Desert.

During the 1970's and 1980's Jonathan became well-known in Washington D.C. art circles, with reviews of his work frequently appearing in the Washington Post Style section. His art has been shown internationally, in France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Russia, Guatemala and Uruguay. Eventually, the toxicity of his silk screen chemicals forced him to quit printing and try something else. His first book "The Wordless Travel Book" sold over 100,000 copies, has been a best-selling travel book and is currently available in print and on Kindle. "In Praise of Women," his second book, with a forward by Isabelle Allende, celebrates women with photographs of beautiful sculptures, and with quotes, histories, and myths. Fabulous women, from Mother Teresa to Oprah to Shirley McLaine, gave their permission to be quoted.

When he became a grandfather, Jonathan transformed some of his earlier pen and ink drawings into a children's book, adding poems to complement the illustrations. Soon to be released: "I Dream I Am."

United Therapeutics Corp. [UTHR] hired Jonathan to produce original art for its 2013 Annual Report." The book, "Good Year UTHR," won over a dozen international awards, including ARC's International Grand Prize for Best of Non-Traditional Annual Reports (US), and Gold Prize for Illustrations.

Jonathan and Barbara have devoted more than a decade to searching for the long-forgotten sources and meanings of ancient Egyptian symbols. Those discoveries released in November 2015 available in their latest book, "Ancient Egyptian Symbols: 50 New Discoveries."
