From Willee...
It has certainly been an interesting last few years since I published the seventh book in the Annie McCauley Series. I am still working on the 8th book, I promise.
But living in a rural area of Maine and being in isolation so much got me to thinking about how other people handled similar situations and hard times. There was actually a time in our not so distant past when people did have to isolate and there was a pandemic as well as hard times financially. Fascism was on the rise and eventually led to a second world war. Entire school systems had to close and children actually got their school lessons over the radio.
As usual, I started to fantasize about living back then and what it would be like. Of course, I didn't picture myself as a pillar of the community and having a life of ease. I imagined myself a down on his luck handyman picking up a job here and there and driving around in an old Ford Model A truck. (Okay, I admit it, I love old cars, trucks, and tractors. In fact, I own an old Ford tractor, circa 1946) I love fishing and driving the back roads of Maine, too.
And that is how Dex Davis, Annie McCauley's great grandad came into being. But every grandpa needs a grandma, doesn't he? So along came LuAnne. Notice the name Anne? Well that's how it became a family name passed down from generation to generation in the Davis family. Luanne is a long legged, no-nonsense waitress, with an overbearing mother. She just ended a relationship in which she was... well, let's not give it all away.
She and Dex meet and after a little verbal give and take seem to strike up a relationship. Then they solve a mystery. This is the first book in the series but I've started on the second book, really. I'm also still working on Annie's 8th. I am temporarily in Los Angeles which is where "Annie's 8th Note" is set.
Okay, back to my bio, if you're interested..
Best Selling author, screenwriter, and kook, Willee Amsden is free spirited and independent. He's as quirky as the many characters he has created. To keep in shape, his favorite exercises are jogging his memory (especially early in the morning) and jumping to conclusions. To stay flexible, he likes to stretch the truth. In fact, one of his favorite sayings is, "Writers fix the truth."
When he's not slaving over a hot computer and cackling like a mad man, you'll often find him outdoors with one or more of his four-footed, furry friends. At other times he may be found playing his banjolele and washboard to his cat, Fluffy.
