Christine Burrows

Christine was born in Birmingham, West Midlands, England and spent her early years living in a small village called Aldridge. Her Mother was a stay at home Mum and her Father was a Draftsman working for McKecknie Brothers. She attended a local Church School behind a quaint thirteenth century church called St Mary’s where there were many happy memories of singing carols in the ancient church.

Her destiny was always to write, and she indeed published her first poem at the age of 17 “The Beach” whilst taking a Secretarial Course. She also attended art college for a while and her career steered towards law enforcement in her twenties where she met and married her husband. She also had a keen interest in fitness and taught Aerobics at local authority gyms in Birmingham, including Aston University. Her career and family pretty much took over, and the writing took a back seat for a while, although she wrote short stories and poetry for her two children whilst they were growing up. She was always inspired by Charles Dickens and Shakespeare and in particular sonnets.

Sonnets have played a big part of her poetry journey as she enjoys the format and the iambic meter, and well matched rhymes. Christine has since invented poetry forms such as the The Awdl Sonnet, The Tetravalent, The Chime Operandi and The Peppered Pickle. All rhyming poetry forms with internal rhyming assonance.

Now she is retired she can devote more time to writing poetry and has indeed written twenty books of poetry including three full colour books, two of them with her own illustrations in water colour and pencil drawing. She has also sold her water colour paintings over the last five years in exhibitions in the Canaries. The combination of writing poetry and illustrating in water colour pictures has provided a unique opportunity to produce full colourful books of poetry and art, both pursuits that are very close to her heart.

The inspiration for her poetry comes from real life, emotions, people and places she has visited. Rhyming words are her passion. Her poetry is direct, and its message goes straight to the heart of a problem, emotion or truth. From wisdom to tyranny, love and sadness reign within the pages of her book. A pivotal perspective of trials and tribulations of past history and twenty-first century time.
