Larry Barth

As a freshman in college, Larry Barth made his first trip to the Ward Foundation to see the work of the country’s best bird carvers. The next year, he entered the annual competition as a novice and earned his first ribbon. He was back a year later, entering the Professional Class and taking second. For thirty-five years, over the course of his professional career, he has been a consistent competitor and winner at the most challenging level, World Class Decorative Life-size, with sixteen first-place ribbons to his credit.

Barth’s training is in art and design. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon, he has devoted his life to his passions—birds and art—and has made his living as a bird sculptor. In 1991, he was named Master Wildlife Artist of the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. In 2003, the Massachusetts Audubon Society mounted Barth’s first one-man show and plans another for 2015. The Ward Foundation’s Museum in Salisbury, Maryland, will feature Barth’s work in an exhibition set to launch in 2016. Barth’s work appears in museums and private collections throughout North America.
