Mr. William C. Pollard Jr.

William C. Pollard, born and raised in Kansas, developed an interest in history, politics and writing as a boy. His first book, 'Dark Friday: The Story of Quantrill's Raid,' won the 1992 Lyon Kansas History Award. Pollard began researching into Kansas Civil War history and then moved to Florida and spent six months in London Colney, England, as well. He likes to travel. He has been involved in several civic organizations and was appointed to the Highlands County (Florida) Historic Preservation Commission in 2013 and was its chairman (2015-9); he became its secretary in 2020. He has been involved in the Highlands County, Florida, Democratic Party and ran for the 2018 Democratic nomination for the U.S. House seat for Florida District 17.

He wrote (2015) 'Forts and Posts in Kansas During the Civil War' and in 2016 'A History of Avon Park Lakes' (the community where he lives) and 'Avoiding Work-At-Home Scams.' 'Forts and Posts in Territorial Kansas' (2018) followed. His newest book, 'British English for Americans' (2020), was based in part on his experiences living in England. In 2026 his short story about his sister's love for birds became a finalist in the Wishing Shelf Book Awards short story - novelette category.

Pollard worked in state government in Kansas eleven years and he worked for Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center (2002-19).
