Jodi Harrison-Lee

Jodi Harrison-Lee is a long time martial artist, having trained in both taekwondo and hapkido for well over 20 years. She is a master instructor, author, speaker, and empowerment coach. Her passion is to help people feel and be safe, strong, and able to defend themselves. In her book and seminars, she teaches her unique philosophy, including 7 keys that unlock the secret to finding your strength.

Growing up in Southern California, Jodi was an athlete first and foremost. As a pre-teen, sports gave her strength and a feeling of invincibility. Then middle school came and she didn’t fit into the expected image of a typical school girl. Consequently, her self-esteem dropped. In high school, this led her to make some very unwise choices that put her in dangerous situations. Participating in sports was the one thing that kept her grounded. So she later wondered why that alone hadn’t kept her from making such poor decisions.

Jodi made it through high school and entered USC in 1986. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and communication, she moved to San Francisco State and earned teaching credentials in both regular and special education. Relocating back to Cal State LA, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education as well. At this time it became clear there was an imbalance in her life; something was missing. During her college years, her academic career dominated her life. She was still an athlete, but without a sport.

As Jodi began her career teaching 5th and 6th grade, she also started her search for a physical activity she could enjoy in her adult years. She found the perfect fit in martial arts. After many years of training, in 2009 she became a gold medalist at the US Open Taekwondo Championships in both forms and sparring. Jodi Harrison-Lee then became a Master, earning her 5th degree black belt in taekwondo and her 4th degree in hapkido (both are Korean martial arts). And through these past 20+ years, she and her husband, Grandmaster Jung Y Lee have been teaching martial arts at their studio, The Martial Way, in La Crescenta, California. To top it off, they are also raising 3 children who are all martial artists as well.

Through dedication to martial arts training, paired with key life experiences, Jodi finally understands what truly gives a person strength. Now it is her mission to share her secret, helping other people find their strength too.
