G. R. Howe was born in Lovell, Wyoming and grew up on the outskirts of Kane, a ghost town twelve miles east on Highway 14A. What was left of this settlement was drowned by the floodwaters of the Yellowtail Dam project in 1965. He practiced law for 39 years in Ventura, California, retiring (if taking another job is retiring) to his roots, raising cows.
He thus far has written 7 western novels. His last, RUMORS, was self published on October 27, 2017. Long having loved westerns, he claims to have read as a boy, every western in the Kane library. That might not be saying much for the Kane library consisted of the east wall of the community center. once a one-room public school house.
One of his books is a collection of short stories based on memories of his family's adventures in the Big Horn Mountains. It is entitled SHORT STORIES OUT OF KANE. He is working to preserve and share the history of Kane, collaborating with original residents and working on the board of the Lovell-Kane Museum. From time to time, when he remembers to pay his dues, he is a member of the Western Writers of America.
