Joao Orvalho

Concluded his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2001 from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.

He is currently an Associate Professor at the Coimbra Education School of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and he is a researcher at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra.

In the past, he was Dean of the Coimbra Education School of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

He was Councilman of the City Council of Coimbra , from 18 December 2010 until 27 March 2012.

It was the leader and the Project Coordinator Smart Coimbra (Coimbra Smart City), a partnership between the City of Coimbra and the University of Coimbra.

He holds several awards for works of technical and scientific nature and several scientific papers published in international volumes.

He is the director of the master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

Has participated in various technical and scientific projects of R & D, national and international, and development to the community, within the framework of Coimbra University and the Polytechnic of Coimbra, having assumed the leadership of some of them.

He regularly acts as reviewer of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) for Computing Reviews.

It is entrepreneur. Collaborates regularly with the business and industry sector.
