George Gibson has had many mixed fortunes in his life. He grew up in Boyle Heights LA and studied acting at Century City. "I love acting, but could never quite cut it, always busting into laughter, and always got my butt kicked by my teacher, so Mom said it was probably not for me."
George had always been accomplished, in math and nuclear physics, but he got bored easily and just couldn't find any work, so acting had to be it. But Mom was right, that never worked out. Money being an issue, George got into the car wash business, and sang as he worked, jiving his butt while singing popular songs as he washed and waxed, changing the lyrics. Coworkers affectionately labeled him as the Waxing Lyricist.
George also wanted to write, but his family laughed at his attempts, even though some of his buddies loved what he had to say. "-But those buddies lived interstate," George says, laughing. "Man, whether you're good at writing or not, everyone's *is* a writer, everyone's got somethin' to say."
George moved on from the car wash to motor racing and fixing cars, and having fun in dirt rallies. A rallying trip to Australia with friends opened his eyes up to the amazing scenery and he started writing. "Yeah Mad Manx is my first book; maybe I will write a sequel. I have plenty of ideas, not always poop ideas too. I want to know what happened to Manx after they found the last city, and now so do my friends, even if they laugh at my stories, so I just gotta hit myself around the head a bit more for some clues to the next book."
George would love to get back to Australia. "Maybe one day," he says, "but for now, driving out to the deserts here and watching old Mad Max movies is inspiration for a new bunch of books I am sure. Palos Verdes Peninsula is an awesome place to write too, especially round at the lighthouse at Point Vicente. All writers need good scenery to be inspired by, I know that for sure -even if they write crap."
