Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana Marlene Allen and her twin were the youngest of the Perkins' seven children. At an early age she could be found lining up the neighborhood children in small chairs to 'teach them something' but her strong administrative skills led her to pursue a business degree from McNeese State University. With degree in hand she soon discovered she could not shake the desire to speak into the lives of young people. This passion to teach eventually found its outlet in school classrooms, park assemblies, children church services and now in book form. Candlestick City, her first children's book, encompasses one of the main themes she has taught young people for years - you are designed to carry light and that light will change the world. Through the characters of this book Marlene hopes to expand her platform and speak to the children of the world.
