Dr Frank Ashall

Professor Dr Frank Ashall received his bachelors and doctorate degrees from Oxford University, UK, then spent 14 years as a research biochemist, studying cancer cells and parasitic protozoa at the molecular level. He later took his medical degree at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, did his medical residency training, and practiced Medicine as a physician for 11 years in St Louis, USA. In 2012 he went to Ethiopia, initially as a volunteer, and is now Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry at Addis Ababa University Medical School in Ethiopia. He is an ardent advocate and campaigner for a world free of tobacco-related diseases. He has published numerous newspaper articles and a book, Remarkable Discoveries! (Cambridge University Press), on popular science. He has also published over 35 academic articles, and more recently has focused his writing on tobacco-related public health issues, particularly in developing countries.
