I have always loved anything to do with the Arthurian legends and it was always Merlin who fascinated me the most. I thought that it would be a lot of fun to write about Merlin as a young boy rather than some old guy with a long beard and a pointy hat. The magic just seemed to flow and before I knew it he was the son of a god and had a talking raven, a dragon, a unicorn and a two hundred year old ghoul as his friends. The Old Magic seemed to flow to fight the Dark Magic and it has been thrilling to write these books and see where Merlin and his friends took us (including this author). After all Merlin is the original boy wizard!

I live in the mystical and magical land of Ireland and this seems to be a constant source of inspiration for stories of magic and myth. It is a wonderful landscape to be inspired by and, after all, the Once and Future King is buried on an island and Ireland is one big island.
