Lawrence grew up in a large family with his parents and fourteen siblings working their family farm in Southeastern Arkansas, near Dermott where he was born and raised. Upon graduating from high school, he attended the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville Campus and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. After working for the University in student services, he pursued a career in human resources, sales, and tax preparation with several corporations including AT&T, Digital Equipment Corporation, Block Buster Video and H&R Block.
For several years he lived in Colorado, Georgia, New Hampshire and Massachusetts before moving to New York City in 1990 with his family. He continues to call New York City his home. Writing has always been a passion, but publishing his first novel wasn’t realized until June of 2015. Nina Shakes Harlem was his first and he hasn’t stopped writing since. Having so many enriching experiences along the way, included managing his son’s career. BJ Crockett, his son, had many successes with TV Commercials, voice overs, theater, television and films. His son found success working with so many accomplished actors such as: Rafe Fines, Sam Waterston, Dan Aykroyd, Denzel Washington, Patrick Wilson, Whitney Huston, Courtney Vance, Chris Noth, Chris Webber, Jennifer Holliday, Anna Marie Horsford, Arthur French and many others.
While managing his son’s career, Lawrence pursued his evolving interest as a songwriter. As a songwriter and producer, many opportunities to meet and work with several successful artists included Leila Florentino, Harry Whitaker, Burnis Stubbs, Johnny Kemp and Clifton Weeks. Finally, writing has now found a permanent place in his life. Comparing it to a rebirth, he feels rejuvenated and blessed.
“Armed with a feeling and thought is how it all begins. I never felt so good. There are so many amazing things all around us to write about.
