Did you know? Inspector Dewey is based on a true story! When an unexpected intruder stumbled into her life two years ago, Heimerl turned the unusual event into an irresistible story idea. For the next several months, she worked with editors, researched publishers and united the most amazingly talented creative team from around the world to bring her first book to life.
As a marketing officer, strategy expert, innovator and brand builder, Kristen’s business career spans 20+ years serving the biggest brands in industry and the biggest hearts of start-ups and entrepreneurs. Kristen revels in bringing compelling products and services to life and helping leaders and individuals with big dreams realize their big goals.
Creating Inspector Dewey has been among Heimerl’s greatest life joys, uniting her passion for writing, innovation, entrepreneurship, discovering new talent, design, leadership, strategy, marketing, animals, speaking, education, literacy, and philanthropy.
Heimerl says: “This book is meaningful to me in so many ways—not least of which is the opportunity to influence a new generation of readers and learners. I was the ‘stupid kid’—younger than my peers, slower to develop, and awkwardly shy. But picture books transformed my life—they showed me the beauty of illustration and the power of language. My early books set the foundation for a love of reading and a life of learning.” Today Heimerl holds a master of science in eCommerce from Carnegie Mellon University, an MBA from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, and a BA from the University of St. Thomas.
Aside from Heimerl’s 2+ year obsession creating the most beautiful picture book possible, her joys include the breathtaking forests and lakes of her Minnesota birthplace, the family that really does love her no matter what, and her three magnificent Norwegian Forest Cats who together, with Kristen, helped catch the bad guy on their block that inspired the book.
