Kerry Hotaling

Kerry Hotaling was born when Eisenhower was president. He came of age in the tumultuous 60's, but he joined the Army anyway and served his country from 1973 to 1976. He has always enjoyed reading about history and visiting historical places. He is a member of the Gettysburg Foundation and the Civil War Trust. Since 2007, with his son, has spent the first weekend in June building historical fences on the Gettysburg battlefield. He had also lit candles during the illumination ceremony in November. Having a fascination with Gettysburg, he began reading about the battle in depth in 1997. Unbeknowst to him, these 18 years of reading were actually research for his second book, "The Yankees Had Something To Do With It". (First book is self-published and that is another story) The whole story came to him while reading yet another Gettysburg book, from the characters who would be involved to the regiments that were cited in the book. This book tells the story of the battle from the perspective of several Union generals who were participants in winning one of the most important battles in the Civil War and helping to save the young nation from fracturing in two, if not more pieces. The reader has a sense of being in the battle and seeing it as it unfolded before the eyes of the Union army. He is working on a new book about the battle of Iwo Jima and it is being well received by the many readers who are willing to read the manuscript and offer opinions. Everyone feels it is a viable book in the making.
