John Coppinger was born and grew up in Kent, England. He went to Maidstone College of Art and later to St. Martins School of Art in London. His fascination with both science and art won him a post as a Scientific Model Maker for the Natural History Museum, London. Some of his models are still on display in the Museum today.
In 1980 he left the Museum to work on Jim Henson’s film “The Dark Crystal". Then on Star Wars “Return of the Jedi” he was hired by renowned make-up artist Stuart Freeborn, sculpted Jabba the Hutt, worked with the build team and operated Jabba’s eyes, via radio control, on the film set.
John's first Science-Fiction Novel ‘Tertiary’ was published in 2005. 'The Arianne Stories', a linked series of three, were published as an e-book in 2016 and the fourth story, 'Storm Force Factor', in 2021.
His latest book 'Archive' involves a disparate group of characters, alien interaction and the promises of strange, other worlds.
A collection of John's poems (1969 - 2021) has been published and a sequel to 'Tertiary' is in progress - - -
