Doug Shields

Doug Shields was born in a Kansas town that was built and then abandoned by the railroad. At queer puberty he was moved to an Arkansas town famous for its KKK headquarters. From there, he left to find peace at the Arkansas School for Mathematics and Sciences. After high school he earned a physics degree and founded Houston Poetry Slam at the art commune known as southmorehouse. He then returned to the Ozarks to attend graduate school in physics. He produced and hosted High On Words Radio, the premier spoken word show on KXUA-FM. Doug has published one short story collection, five screen-printed poetry posters, and ten chapbooks. He is a Pushcart Prize nominee.
