Doris Markland

Doris Markland was born in 1925 in Stanhope, Iowa. Her adult years have been spent in Nebraska, where she now lives in Norfolk . . the town where Hallmark Cards began with the Hall brothers, and the town where Johnny Carson grew up. She earned a B. A. degree from Morningside College, did a few stints of teaching and business, then became a dedicated housewife. She has always loved to write and she proved that talent by winning some major prizes in the once popular "I like your product because... in 25 words or less" contests. Then as a freelance writer she authored verses for several greeting card companies, but especially Hallmark Cards, where she was given name credit in their cards and books. In later years she has published stories and verses in several magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post, Looking Back, and The Good Old Days. Her book "Playing Life by Ear" is a collection of her writings over a period of years. As she says on her blog http://mymarkland.wordpress.com she writes for sharp older people and their middle-aged kids. Her writings include serious thoughtful pieces that inspire reader insights, as well as stimulating poetry and excellent light verse. Doris also has a home in Honolulu, where she spends several months each year. This year was her 40th year in a row to travel to Hawaii.
