SC Hallen

S.C. Hallen has been writing since she was young. She started off in her teens writing poetry and expanded to fictional and non-fictional stories as she grew older. Some of the stories she writes are for, or because of, the children in her life. Some of the writing is as much of an escape from reality as reading.

The Vachtor stories started off as little funny antidotes that her dog had been doing. One year while visiting her family for Christmas, her niece Rylan came up begging for a story, but not one from any of Grandma’s books. So S.C. grabbed a notebook and scribbled out something based on her dog. One story grew into two then two became more as Rylan kept coming and asking for another Vachtor story. From there the Vachtor series was born.

S.C. Hallen gets her story ideas from a variety of characters running around in her head. A lot of her poems for kids were little ditties she came up with for her nieces, nephews, or her children, and their friends. She also gets ideas from different people that catch her eye while she is out and about doing regular things. It is not unusual to see S.C. Hallen sitting at conventions watching the COS players walking around. She has fun making up stories about some of the characters that she sees.

A lot of her stories are fictional twists on real events, or parts of dreams. Some times when she gets overly stressed, she will take a little while to duck into her head and visit whatever fictional world pops up. She will wander around for a while then when she wakes up she writes down what she imagined. A lot of those daydreams and characters become their own stories.
