Clive Carpenter

J. BRIAN began to take writing seriously when he got my hands on his first typewriter at the age of 13. Growing up in the '80s, he was an avid player of Dungeons & Dragons, and other role playing games, and would sit in his room writing the stories of his adventures in the games. But it was Henry Kuttner’s 1936 short story, “The Graveyard Rats”, that heavily influenced his desire to write horror after reading it when he was 16 and no other horror story he's read since has scared him or given him such a feeling of dread and helplessness as Kuttner’s claustrophobic tale of terror. He decided that one day, he, too, wanted to write a story that would give readers that same feeling. And in 2015, when he published his first collection of short stories Brain Matter, he did just that with his short story "Confession", a story that garnered praise from both best selling authors and horror review websites. "Confession" has won several awards and has been called dark, sickening, and downright disturbing.

In 2015, J. created his literary alter-ego, author of horror "Clive Carpenter" and began publishing his work, winning nearly a dozen awards for his efforts. With a writing style heavily influenced by the classic pulps, his stories and narrative can be quick and punchy and his readers appreciate the fact that he doesn't waste time with a lot descriptive wordage.

J. (Clive) currently lives in the Metro area of Detroit, Michigan.
