Sam Peters

Sam Peters was born in New York City in 1934 and raised by his mother, Amy, in the Bronx.

After graduating from Bishop Dubois High School he entered the pre-law program at N.Y.U. earning a B.A. degree. A stint in the Army, including a tour in Korea, intervened before he entered Fordham University School of Law.

With legal degree in hand he was off to Washington D.C. holding down legal positions at the Federal Communications Commission, the United States Department of Justice and The Lawyer Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Nine years later, he returned to New York to take a senior position in the legal department of the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO).

When the company transferred its headquarters out of New York City he and his family moved with it to Southern California. In 1985 he retired from Atlantic Richfield and began teaching in the paralegal program at Rio Hondo College; eventually becoming the program director before retiring 18 years later.

Sam Peters completed a first draft of “Law versus Order” in 2002 but put it aside until, in 2014, he was encouraged to rework and publish it.
