Charles W Walker

For over 30 years the former Senator Charles W. Walker has dedicated his life and career to public service. Not only did he serve 5 terms in the U.S. Senate representing Georgia, but he was the first African American chosen to serve as Senate Majority Leader; the second-highest elected position in the Senate Leadership.

During his political career Walker: served on countless committees to improve local and statewide communities; led nearly every committee in legislature, with the most significant being the powerful Appropriations Committee; and received hundreds of local and national awards & honors for his tireless efforts and philanthropy.

Walker is also a highly respected and successful businessman who has founded and grown several multi-million dollar companies. These ventures have led to his becoming one of the largest minority employers in the state of Georgia.

Now, in the next chapter of his professional life, Walker is a popular Motivational Speaker, Political Analyst, and book Author. His new book, “From Peanuts to Power: The Road to Wealth, Success and Happiness”, was published in February-2015 (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing). Walker is passionate about motivating individuals, college students, corporate groups, small business owners, and entrepreneurs on how to overcome obstacles to achieve the personal and professional success they desire.

He is also passionate about something else he knows a lot about: Politics. Having personally spent over three decades “in the trenches of government”, he’s not only a highly qualified Political Analyst, but he is a fierce champion for reforming the Criminal Justice System. Walker strongly believes the system is terribly broken and in need of major reform.

This belief and his opinions on such a heated topic have sparked a lot of interest in Walker for speaking at conferences and conducting (often controversial) media interviews. Walker is not afraid to speak his mind on this much needed reform and share his ideas on what needs to change with the current Criminal Justice System.

Education & Personal Background:

Born November 8, 1947 in Burke County, Georgia, Charles is one of 14 children. He graduated from Augusta’s Lucy Laney High School and served in the U.S. Navy after graduation from the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois. Walker attended Norfolk State College in Virginia and earned a degree in Business Administration from Augusta College (now GRU) in 1974. He is married to the former Shelia Davis and is the father of four children.

Charles is a strong advocate for higher education. He believes that education is the natural equalizer. As such, Walker has served on the Board of Trustees for Morehouse School of Medicine, Paine College, Morris Brown College, and Augusta State University.

Walker has also received countless honors and awards for his years of service, including: Presidential Appreciation Award for the Coalition for Respect and the Medical Association of Georgia’s Distinguished Service Award; The Paul Harris Fellow by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary; the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) at the 17th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast; the MLK Commission Award; Man of the Year Award; and the Mental Health Association’s Public Service Award. Walker was also named Legislator of the Year by more than two dozen state-wide organizations.
