The most serene scene I know is a corner table in a bookstore cafe with a pile of freshly purchased books and magazines and a cup of chamomile tea. And I love my smart devices, so don't get me wrong, but there's still something so special about being able to turn the pages, feel the textures, see the colors, smell the ink. Not ready to give that up. I have loved writing, libraries, bookstores, arts and letters for as long as I can remember. Nothing like a great journey of the mind in a quiet corner of a cafe.
I was solely selected to read aloud my first short story to a live audience and successful critical acclaim - an ovation of applause by my fourth grade class. As I read and glanced up occasionally from the paper trembling in my hand, I saw their eyes, transfixed on me with something that looked a lot like ... awe. Except for my voice, it was so quiet in the room. No one moved. I ... had them. They stared at me with those spellbound expressions until I finished. And then they burst into applause as I went back to my seat, my face burning and heart racing. That experience made a deep impression on me. In those moments, I realized the awesome power of words. I made the purpose-setting discovery that I had been gifted with the power to reach people and touch their hearts through writing ... and that I would have to use it.
I self-published my first novel, Fleeing Aerie, in 2003 after many attempts to find an interested traditional publisher. I just wanted to see my book in print. I wanted it to be real, with pages I could turn. To my joy and amazement, Fleeing Aerie was selected that year as a competition finalist for the Fiction Novel of the Year Award by ForeWord Magazine. I will soon be releasing its second edition.
Currently, The Masterful Writer Series and The Purpose Chronicles are my two series in development:
