Tom McCoy

Tom McCoy is a lifelong fisherman who loves to fly fish for trout but also enjoys all that the saltwater has to offer. He has fished mountain streams north, east, south and west. He authored his first book - How to Fly Fish for Trout: The First Book to Read - when a friend wanted to learn how to fly fish and was overwhelmed by the available instruction manuals. Too much information for a beginner was the problem. The book is written in a familiar style and truly can get a person started fly fishing for trout, and catching, quicker than most. Over 5000 copies are out there.

The next step was to convert 141 letters to a lifelong friend into a collection of stories – Letters to Mack, Correspondence on a Fishing Life. Tom is not a novelist or short story writer but a teller of stories. True stories. There are 3 Letters to Mack books spanning decades of fishing and life.

A friend asked him to write tips on fly fishing. Tom wrote them for his website and the friend selected those he wanted for his monthly newsletter. Once there was over 30 Tom decided to organize and edit them into his next book - How to Improve Your Fly Fishing & Catching. So many fly fishers reach a plateau in their effectiveness (and fun) and require some agent to move them forward. This book is one of those agents. He reminds the reader that these are "Tips" and not comprehensive discussions of the subject.

Tom's living document is his website https://tomsfishingstories.mailchimpsites.com. Here is where all of his writing (and fishing) comes together as well as lots of resources for the fisherperson. Please take a look, subscribe, and friend him on Facebook as well.
