David Shaw

David worked for over 20 years with many famous UK retail names, in their buying departments from junior to executive level (including Top Shop, Debenhams, Burton Menswear, Dorothy Perkins and Principles for Women. Later moving into the footwear sector, he joined The British Shoe Corporation as buying director for Dolcis, Saxone & Bertie).

He then embarked upon a new career of teaching fashion retail and business to both graduate and post graduate students. He has also taught generic business subjects for The Chartered Institute of Marketing at PG level.

During his career, he also worked extensively in the Charity Shop sector with the Cancer Research Campaign. He was a volunteer director of Minds Matter Trading Ltd and worked consulting for several national and local hospice charity shop chains.

University teaching included - The London College of Fashion, The Dublin Institute of Technology, Instituto Marangoni, the University for the Creative Arts, Macquarie University Australia, Middlesex University, Northumbria University and The European School of Economics. He teaches at graduate, post graduate and masters level.

It is his intention to write books that are accessible and easy to read - especially focused on the international fashion business. The fashion business is unforgiving, and it is therefore essential that every student learns how to effectively buy, market and retail fashion of all price levels. He is a writer who has put real practice into understandable theory.

International Fashion Business is not simply about buying the most expensive designers, brands and products - but also about giving consumers what they want at the right price in the right way at the place of their choice. The consumer will always demand more all the time.

His books are dedicated to the many students that he has taught over the years - long may they prosper. He would also like to pay tribute to the many inspirational people he met and worked with during his retail career - too many to list. He thanks them all.
