Master Mingtong Gu was born in rural China into hunger, illness, and a body that carried the weight of generations. He became the first from his village to attend college, earning MA’s in math and fine arts. What began as a search for knowledge became a search for wholeness.
That search led him to train under Grandmaster Dr. Pang Ming, founder of the world’s largest medicine-less Qigong hospital, where patients heal in spite of chronic and “incurable” conditions. What Mingtong witnessed there changed his understanding of healing and his understanding of what a human being is.
Named Qigong Master of the Year by the 13th World Taichi and Qigong Congress, Mingtong founded The Chi Center in 2001 and later Southwest Sanctuary, a 150-acre living field of embodiment and ecological wisdom in New Mexico. His teachings reach practitioners in over 100 countries through programs and retreats, rooted in Wisdom Healing Qigong.
He has been a featured teacher at Spirit Rock, Omega, Kripalu, and Esalen, and has appeared on PBS, Wisdom 2.0, and The Shift Network.
