Lupe Andrade was born in La Paz, Bolivia, into a well-known family of public figures, authors and intellectuals. She was raised both in Bolivia and the United States, spending many formative years in Washington D.C.
In Bolivia, she became a well-known journalist and television personality. She wrote a columnm “El Batán”, for over 20 years and over time became Executive Editor of two newspapers and Director of two television networks. In the 1990’s she ventured into city-government politics, becoming City Council President and finally Mayor of La Paz, Bolivia’s political capital.
Her varied interests and avocations include archaeology, anthropology, bird-watching, literature (she was a Professor in San Andrés University for over ten years), and art. She has written eight books, published in Spanish. Currently she is engaged in producing high-altitude boutique coffee in the Yungas region. She has four children and six grandchildren of which she is inordinately proud.
