William Morris, PhD, DAOM. LAc
Morris is one of the world's leading experts on the use of pulse diagnosis for developing medical interventions. With 35 years of clinical experience, he has developed a system of practice that brings the knowledge systems of China into a comprehensive view.
Morris authored Mai Dao: Path of the Pulse, numerous journal papers on the subject and co-authored the PMPH book, Li Shi-zhen Pulse Studies: An Illustrated Guide.
As an author, he writes a bimonthly column in Acupuncture Today, and regular articles in American Acupuncturist. He served as Editor in Chief of the American Acupuncturist between 2005 and 2007. He served on the Editorial board for the American Acupuncturist 2001 to Present and the editorial board for the Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2009 to Present. Will served as a prepublication reviewer for Elsevier between 1999 and 2005. He wrote product support literature for Sheng Chang pharmaceuticals between 1989 and 1998. He provided product support literature for Far East Summit between 2000 and 2004. Advisory Board, Integrator Blog 2006 - Present.
Morris is a national leader of the movement to incorporate Chinese medicine into the American healthcare system. He has a master degree in medical education from USC, a doctorate in acupuncture and Oriental medicine and a PhD focused upon Chinese pulse diagnosis and medical epistemology. Morris spent five years studying dermatology under Gu Neiqiang in the external medicine family lineage of the same name. He has focused upon the treatment of dermatological conditions since 2000 and currently teaches dermatology at AOMA in Austin.
Morris has a passion for transformative leadership. He served as architect of a single national professional association, now the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM). As president of AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, he led the institution to regional accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, acquisition of its own property and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM). He was recognized as a Founder and Leader for his contributions to doctoral level education in Chinese medicine in America. He was voted Acupuncturist of the Year by the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for his work towards unifying the profession. He earned accreditation approval for 3 DAOM progams and organized 2 Institutional Review Boards while serving as consultant to Children's Hospital Los Angeles IRB.
Classics and family lineages provide the foundation for his 34-year focus on the subject of pulse diagnosis. Morris spent 7 years studying Chinese pulse diagnosis in the Ding family lineage. He teaches in the Ding family lineage, weaving that work with a literate discipline that is rooted in the classics.
