Peter Jon Pearce

Peter Jon Pearce, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jon_Pearce) Principal of Pearce Research and Design, is a product designer specializing in high-performance design to create products of exceptional performance, material efficiency, long life, and enduring appearance.

Peter graduated from the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a BS in Product Design.

Pearce then worked as a staff designer in the Office of Charles Eames, and he has taught at California State University at Northridge, University of Southern California, UCLA and served as Dean of the School of Design at the California Institute of the Art.

In his earlier career Pearce developed toys, games and kites: SuperStructures, CurvedSpace, Rhombones, SnowCrystals; GreatShapes, NetResults, PuzzelPatters, TetraKite, Skylinks

Pearce then continued his pursuits in larger scale, with playground structures including: Pearce Climbing Cluster and Curved Space Diamond Structure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curved_Space_Diamond_Structure)

At his company, Pearce Structures Inc, Pearce was responsible for the design and manufacture of over 80 "state-of-the-art" architectural projects, including Biosphere 2, in Arizona; and Fremont Street, in Las Vegas.

Pearce designed a special purpose ergonomic seating family called the “Cachet” chair, which embodies his high-performance design principles and is being produced by Steelcase, Inc.

Currently, Peter is designing and developing a prototype net-zero energy residence called the Pearce Ecohouse, which embodies a new integrated product-based building system, which includes a high performance structural framework which supports a climate management canopy, enclosure envelope and radiant floor system. This project is intended to further Pearce's goal of sustainability of the built environment through the implementation of a high-performance design ethic.

Pearce is also developing a new task chair, which is informed by the "Cachet" chair along with a deep understanding of high-performance design and ergonomic seating design.
