Josiah Kahane is a professor emeritus of design at the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) in Israel. He has been a tenured design faculty at HIT for 37 years. Prof. Kahane retired in 2013.
Josiah has studied industrial design at UCLA - BA 1970, MA 1972. He is also a Phi Beta Kappa
Upon his return to Israel from studies abroad Josiah was one of the pioneers of industrial design in Israel. He played a key role in founding the Design School at HIT, came to be a several terms Chair of the department. Later he progressed to academic management, as the institute's VP for Academic Development, eventually appointed to be HIT's Academic VP (Provost in the US). Josiah Kahane participated and chaired numerous academic committees, was invited to participate in design juries and invited as a guest lecturer and design educator in Israel and abroad.
Balancing his academic career, prof. Kahane ran his private industrial design office for two dozen years, providing design consultation to electronics and medical companies in the Israel’s hi-tech hub.
As a young man, Josiah studied at the Israel Nautical College, served in the navy and the merchant marine. There he acquired a long time interest in historical geography and mapping. Josiah and his wife Dolly spend part of their time traveling between three different continents to visit their children's families, take advantage of Josiah’s old passion for travel.
