Dorothy Wilks

Dorothy Wilks grew up at the side of her mother watching her knit and crochet beautiful projects. Her grandmother was also a master at crochet and taught Dorothy at an early age how to hold a hook and yarn. Both her mother and her grandmother were influential in developing Dorothy’s love of needlecrafts. Today Dorothy is an avid crochet and knitting enthusiast and writes instructional books to share her love of these crafts.

She lives in central Illinois not far from the Mississippi River with her husband, two dogs, and two cats. They are the proud parents of two grown children who live not far from them. Family has always been important to Dorothy and she cherishes the time she can spend with hers. She enjoys all forms of needlecrafts which include crochet, knitting, and hand embroidery. Dorothy and her husband also enjoy camping and this gives her the perfect opportunity to enjoy crochet and knitting in the beauty of nature.

Dorothy began writing crochet and knitting books after several of her friends and family asked her to teach them these popular crafts. She saw a need for instructional books which were clearly illustrated and easy to understand. Her books are written in her laid back and personal style. It’s just like Dorothy was sitting next to you explaining crochet and knitting techniques step by step. Dorothy hopes her books help spread the love of crochet and knitting. She enjoys learning new techniques and sharing them with her readers, and this shows in her personal and easy to understand instructions.
