Currently a free-lance writer, Bill Thompson was a book review editor, film critic and columnist, arts writer, and travel writer for The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, from 1980 to 2012. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a former sportswriter in Virginia and Florida, today he contributes reviews and articles to Kirkus Reviews, Charleston Style and Design, The Post and Courier and various travel magazines. His most recent book, "Lightwaves: A Film Critic's Odyssey," was published in September of 2023. Scheduled for January 2024 release is his fourth book, the memoir "As Luck Would Have It." Apart from a passion for books, film, and travel, the Charleston resident's wide-ranging interests embrace landscape and architectural photography, mountain hiking, found-object sculpture, and all the visual and performing arts.
