Phillips Alexander ("Alex") Benton was born outside of Boston, Massachusetts. He was a pioneering author of the original VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) browser for Netscape in 1996. He has since worked at a number of Silicon Valley startups, including multiple 3D gaming companies, and holds patents in three-dimensional orthodontic software. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, UK, where he is also an Associate Lecturer in Advanced Graphics. He is a Senior Software Engineer at Google in London, England, where he lives with his wife and cat.
