John Warburton

John Warburton was born in Wigan, England in 1957. He graduated in 1979 from the University of Leeds with 1st Class Honours in Geological Sciences and completed his PhD in Structural Geology at the University of Swansea in 1982. He lives in Watsons Bay, Sydney Australia.

John is an executive in the global oil & gas industry. He is a Director and Executive Advisor to several petroleum companies, and founder of petroleum exploration consultancy Insight Exploration. He serves on the External Advisory Board for Petroleum Leeds, the University of Leeds Centre for Petroleum Engineering & Geoscience.

John is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an Alumni of Cranfield Business School UK and a Fellow of the Geological Society of London. John’s career has provided the opportunity for him to work on and travel extensively in the Middle East, Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, North & West Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, PNG, South- East Asia, China, Korea, Japan and of course Pakistan. He has published many internationally recognised technical articles on petroleum exploration in mountain belts and North Sea to North-West Frontier is his first novel.

In addition to oil & gas exploration and his recently discovered passion for writing John owns a 3,000 acre farm in the high hills of New England, Australia. This offers a perfect balance to bustling city life and business.
