James G. Watson

James Gordon Watson is the cousin, twice removed, of Sherlock Holmes' long-time chronicler and friend, Dr. John Watson.

Born of a Scottish father, the well-known engineer and amateur playwright David Heron Watson, and a Westmorland mother, Elizabeth Mary Norris, James was educated at Ecclefechan Preparatory School, then Gordonstoun (which he later claimed to have hated, " ... with the deepest loathing known to man ...") and Edinburgh University School of Medicine. He spent his working life as a G.P. in that city and still retains a flat there, both for his own use and that of his extended family.

On retirement, he moved his main home to the Isle of Man, which suited his love of solitude and privacy, and though he has successfully published several books (mainly historical romances, set in the Napoleonic era) these have all appeared under pseudonyms. His sole preferred contact with the wider world is now through his friend and trustee, 'The Offshore Organ-builder,' whom he met through their mutual interest in the game of croquet, and, initially, through James' inability to tie his own bow tie! He has a particular fascination for penguins.

Of late, James Watson has published the first in what he hopes to be a series of hitherto unseen accounts (" ... unless I peg out, first ...") based on notes left to him by his more famous cousin, and using his own name for the first time, " ... as this seemed to be relevant to the production of these stories."
