Michael C. Cox

Michael Cox was born in Bristol, England where he began his grammar school education in September 1945 when World War II ended. He gained his BSc and PhD in chemistry at Bristol University. He became fluent in Dutch while doing his first year of post-graduate research as a British Council Scholar at Utrecht University and in American while doing his post-doctoral research year as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Southern California.

In 1960 he obtained his post-graduate certificate in education and married Maureen Cox, who gained her BA in French, became a teacher and subsequently author of the best-selling music series THEORY IS FUN and HARMONY IS FUN.

When they were both retired and in their sixties, Michael and Maureen emigrated to Canada to be near their daughter, Alison, a music teacher and successful composer. They retained their British citizenship but became Canadian citizens in 2005. Michael and Maureen have been happily married for almost 55 years.

Michael has stopped writing chemistry books; he has now writen a book of 16 short stories and two novels. The sixteen short stories appeared in four separate volumes and all together in an omnibus edition in 2015. The novel, ONCE UPON A TERM, appeared in 2015. The sequel, ONCE UPON A MICHAELMAS TERM, appeared in 2020.
