When I was in my twenties, I thought to myself—I’d like to write a book someday. I’m resourceful, creative, have a vivid imagination, and know I could weave a darn good tale. It took a while, but in 2003, when I was living in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, I finally gave it a try.
With my short attention span and impatience to finish projects, writing a short novel—aka a novella—turned out to be the perfect choice for me. My first manuscript, Passport to the Past, was completed in 2006 and self-published the following year. I turned my creative endeavor to the Florida Keys, where my husband and I bought a vacation home, The interesting, lesser-known history of the Keys inspired me to write about it. That’s when I discovered my true niche—intertwining modern-day fiction with documented history.
That inspiration led to Vindication Key, followed by Indian Key and Flashback Key. Along the way, I also revamped my first book, Passport to the Past, and republished it as Fate’s Journey.
In 2017, after moving from Mount Pleasant to Keowee Key in Upstate South Carolina, another idea began to take shape. My affection for both “Keys” eventually inspired my fifth novella, The Heirloom, where I brought the two locales together for a unique and creative story line involving one of South Carolina’s most enduring legends—Issaqueena.
Now five novellas are in the books. They represent much of what I’ve loved over the years as both a reader and writer: mystery, history, romance, suspense, and lore. I especially enjoy taking real history and weaving it into fictional stories believable enough to leave readers wondering where the truth ends and my imagination begins.
Looking back, what began decades ago as a simple dream became a creative journey I never could have anticipated. I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride.
