Pete Pescatore

Pete Pescatore (Phil Haddock) lives in Milan, Italy, where he writes and works as a translator. He's just published another novel, Vietnam 93108: The Book of Dog, in Kindle and paperback editions. The first to appear on Amazon was a crime novel published in late 2014 called "Suicide, Italian Style". That and a short story, Sidewalk Confessional, were published under the name Pete Pescatore. The "Book of Dog" is also a mystery of sorts, but there's a lot more going on. Full of the sound and fury of the Vietnam War years, the tale is told by a dummy - a wooden puppet locked away in a suitcase underneath the hero's bed.

Phil/Pete grew up in the US and Canada and has lived in Europe, mostly Italy, for many years now. It's a great place for a crime writer. Hardly a day goes by without another story full of skullduggery, furtive plots, general buffoonery, corruption, profiteering, abuse of power, and so on. Nothing new, right?

Still, for all its faults and Byzantine ways, Italy is a wonderful country, an endless source of pleasure in wine, food, love and stories. And then there are the Italians themselves -- exasperating, inventive, sly, funny, infuriating and seductive by turns.

All of which makes a writer rich - in material, if nothing else.
